Safeguarding Policy



1. Introduction: DMProSports is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We recognize our responsibility to ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants in our coaching programs.

2. Purpose: This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding, provides guidelines for identifying and reporting concerns, and establishes procedures to ensure best practices in child protection.

3. Legal Framework: This policy aligns with relevant UK legislation, including the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023, and the Equality Act 2010.

4. Roles and Responsibilities:

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for overseeing all safeguarding matters within DMProSports.
All staff and volunteers must complete safeguarding training and adhere to this policy.
Coaches and staff must report any concerns about a child’s welfare to the DSL.

5. Safer Recruitment Practices:

All staff and volunteers undergo enhanced DBS checks.
At least two references are required for new hires.
All staff must complete safeguarding induction training before working with children.

6. Code of Conduct:

Coaches must maintain professional boundaries and act as role models.
Physical contact should be appropriate and necessary for coaching purposes only.
Coaches must avoid one-on-one situations with children where possible.
Communication with children must be professional and only through official channels.

7. Recognizing and Responding to Concerns:

Signs of abuse may include unexplained injuries, changes in behaviour, or fear of certain individuals.
Concerns must be reported immediately to the DSL.
If a child is in immediate danger, emergency services should be contacted (999).


8. Managing Allegations Against Staff:

Any allegations against staff must be reported to the DSL.
If necessary, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be informed.
Staff under investigation may be suspended pending an inquiry.

9. Safe Coaching Environment:

Risk assessments must be conducted for all coaching sessions.
Emergency procedures must be in place and communicated to all staff.
Appropriate staff-to-child ratios must be maintained.

10. Whistleblowing: 


Staff are encouraged to report concerns about other staff members.
Whistle-blowers are protected under UK whistleblowing laws.

11. Monitoring and Review:

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary.
Staff will receive regular safeguarding training updates.
